Getting Around Paris

Arriving In Paris
Air
Flights from the United States arrive at l'Aéroport Roissy Charles de Gaulle to the northeast of the city. Flights from other French cities and some other European cities arrive at l'Aéroport Orly to the south. Both airports are well served by all major airlines. Transportation by taxi, bus, shuttle or train is readily available to and from either airport. The easiest way to get into the city is by using a Taxi Parisien that is readily available at all airport terminals. You may also opt for one of the many shuttle services such as PariShuttle. If you are travelling without much luggage and are comfortable with the language, travelling into the city via light rail and Métro is quite convenient and economical.

Train
Paris is served by six train stations. Gare Saint-Lazare and Gare Montparnasse are both on the Métro line that directly serves the apartment. Without leaving the train station, you simply get on Line 13 in the direction of M° St-Denis-Université/Gabriel Péri/Asnières-Gennevilliers, and exit at M° Place de Clichy. You are only a 5-minute walk from the apartment. All of Paris' other train stations are accessible with only one Métro change.

Car
The apartment is located just a short distance from the Porte de Clichy exit off the Boulevard Périphérique. Driving directions from l'Aéroport Roissy Charles de Gaulle and l'Aéroport Orly are available. A public parking garage is located 2-1/2 blocks from the apartment. Street parking is scarce and is generally reserved for those holding a resident permit. Please note that we strongly advise against driving in Paris as a primary means of transportation. The region's public transportation system is one of the best in the world and using it will relieve your worries about traffic and parking.

Transportation Within Paris & the Île de France
Métro
The easiest way to get anywhere in Paris is to use the wonderful subway system called le Métro. The apartment is within easy walking distance of three Métro stations on two different lines. The closest station, M° La Fourche, is on Line 13 just three blocks from the apartment. The others, each about five blocks away, are M° Place de Clichy (Lines 2 & 13) and M° Rome (Line 2). From M° La Fourche, a 12-minute ride brings you to l'avenue des Champs-Elysées, midway between l'Arc de Triomphe and la Place de la Concorde. In a few more minutes, you can be at le Musée du Louvre, le Marais, la Place de la Bastille, la Tour Eiffel, la Sorbonne, le quartier Latin, la Cathédrale de Notre-Dame de Paris, or Saint-Germain-des-Prés. For business travelers, la Défense is equally accessible with only one Métro change. All of these attractions are within 25 minutes of the apartment. The entire Métro system is very easy to navigate and maps are readily available.

Taxi
Taxis are available in Paris, but they are not as easy to find as in New York or other major cities. You can call for a pick-up or hire a taxi at the neighborhood taxi stand outside the M° La Fourche.

Day Trips Outside Paris
RER
The entire Île-de-France is served by a light rail system called the RER, with trains traveling to the suburbs and to destinations such as Versailles and Disneyland. There are not very many RER stops within the city, but the apartment is reasonably close to a station on the line that directly serves Versailles. Maps of the RER lines are readily available.
